ERROR CODES / OWNER GUIDE
2015 F-150 P0455 and P0456 EVAP Codes
EVAP leak codes identify a system condition, not necessarily a fuel-tank leak.
P0455 and P0456 concern leaks in the evaporative emissions control system. They are often annoying because the truck may drive normally while the warning light stays on.
P0455 generally indicates a larger evaporative-system leak and P0456 a small leak.
What the codes indicate
P0455 generally refers to a large EVAP-system leak and P0456 to a small leak. These labels describe test results, not the exact location or cost of the problem.
Think beyond the fuel filler
Depending on the configuration, sealing problems, damaged vapor lines, purge or vent valve faults and wiring issues can affect EVAP testing. Do not force or modify fuel-system components to make the light disappear.
What details help
Note whether the light appeared after refueling, whether there are other codes, and whether the warning returns immediately or after several drive cycles. Avoid clearing the report before saving it.
How a technician confirms a leak
Professional smoke/pressure testing and control-system checks can help isolate the cause. This is generally more reliable than replacing multiple parts based only on code descriptions.
Next steps
- Save the complete report and other codes.
- Note recent refueling or repairs.
- Avoid open flames or unsafe DIY fuel-vapor testing.
- Ask for leak testing before replacing several components.

These are the original manufacturer resources and service documents used to check the technical points above. They may be updated, and vehicle-specific information takes priority.
I own a 2015 Ford F-150 and plan to add real observations, photos and maintenance notes to these guides. I won't present an untested repair as something I've personally done.
